How to monitor the Performance of VMs

Hello,

I am a newbie to the virtualization world. I have  a Vshere 5.0 and NetApp FAS 3210 NAS box. The Virtual machines are residing in this NAS (SAS disks). The Protocol used is iSCSI. Please let me know how to gauge the performance of the VMs in terms of datastore.

There are many many tools.

Check out vCenter Operations, NetApp's own Insight Balance, etc.  All of these have end to end visibility.

I agree. I think the Netapp's Insight Balance & vCenter Operations would suffice for your needs. More tools would mean more costs but some essential functions are already covered by the two apps that we have mentioned.

Nagios is the correct spelling.

Its a useful tool, but more intended for up/down alerting than performance monitoring.
