Hardware alerts without virtual center?

I'm told I am supposed to be able to do hardware alerts with vSphere without virtual center.

I have my server up and running but I do not want to go into production without getting alerts for such things as when redundant features fail, such as hard drives in the RAID or power supply, etc.

Please tell me how this is possible.

Under configuration it seems to show all the devices and their status. I just want to get an email or somethign when somethign goes wrong, etc.

Thank you,

-Bob

Have a look at Veeam Monitor. http://www.veeam.com/esxi-monitoring-free.html

It will give you some ability to alert for hardware.

You could always use SNMP to monitor both the hardware and vmkernel. I belive with vSphere SNMP can perfrom both send traps and receive polling requests such as GET requests. Most vendors offer some sort of monitoring for the hardware via SNMP aswell.

Somehow free brings out the worst in us.

VMware does have the Essentials package which gives you vCenter and the ability to monitor. You can find a package that talks CIM. You can find a package that does SNMP. I pointed you to the VEEAM application.
