HA between Esxi 4.0 Update 2 Hosts and ESXi 4.1 update 2 Hosts

Hi,

We are in the midst of planning for an upgrade of our Virtual infra ( VC and ESXi) to 4.1 Update 2 from 4.0 Update 2. We are intending to perform the migration of the ESXi hosts in Phases. As such, would like to know if vmotion can take place between ESXi 4.0 and ESXI 4.1 hosts ? Secondly, is it compulsary to upgrade all my VMs in the upgraded Hosts (ESXi 4.1 Update 2) to VMware tools version 4.1 Update 2 as well ? If I dont intend to upgrade my vmware tools, any impact ?

You should have no problem with HA and/or vMotion between 4.0 U2 and 4.1 U2 ESXi hosts, this is fully supported.  As for VMware Tools, whilst it's recommended to keep them up to date, you shouldn't see any impact from leaving them at an older version.  There haven't been any issues with doing this in my experience.
