Esxi upgrade fails to find installation

Hi,

I upgraded one host from esxi 5.0 to 5.5 without any problems.  When I tried the next (identical H/W) host the upgrade failed at 24% from iso install with error 39 dir not empty.  I moved local.tgz from altbootbank up one dir level.  When I rebooted and tried to upgrade again it doesn't find the installation and says it will lose data in the existing partition.  How do I remedy this and upgrade?  What will data would I lose if it has to install fresh?

Thanks,

Nathan.

I'm thinking of just installing fresh on this host.  What data would I lose?  What happens to the vm's that are managed by this host?  If they don't appear after the install, can I just browse the datastore on the SAN in vcenter and add the .vmx to inventory for this host?

Thanks,

Have you tried re-downloading and burning the ISO to a new CD? This sounds like something in the .iso is messed up.
