Error upgrading ESXi 4.0 to 5.0

Hi folks,

I've tried to upgrade from ESXi 4.0 to 5.0 on HP Proliant DL380 G6 host server using HP distributed ESXi 5.0 ISO image. I was choosing 2nd option "install esxi, preserve datastore".

Process continued with warning that repartitioning will take place what I perceived as normal unless datastores are preserved. Than happened the worse - setup stopped with the following error:

Now I can't boot my host server any more not talking about accessing more than 10 virtual machnines residing on it.

I'm in trouble. Any advice how to solve this situation is very welcome. Is there any way to repair boot partition?

This LUNS is in used and therefore cannot proceed further. Please check with vmware support.

Could you explain what has happened? Is it good idea to try out recovery option from original version CD?

Hi there,

I have exactly the same problem (chose option 1 - upgrade) and got the same error message as above. Any ideas on how to do the upgrade successfully?

Thanks,
