ESXi Physical vmnic down ?

Hello Experts,

Actually I did changes in ESXi 6.7 Physical vmnic0 speed from 100 to 1000 Mbps.

After that it went down and I am unable to access that. Even I am not able to access from vmnic1 which has already set to speed of 1000Mbps.

It was working fine before the speed change of vmnic0 and also its showing disconnected in ESXi  Network Adapter settings.

Could you please help me figure out this one ??

Thanks.

Nitin

Sounds like a Hardware Compatibility List issue.

But I can only guess with the info provided.

so we know now that the NIC or the switch port is not supporting 1000MBps

you might want to find out .. as 100MBps is too little these days .. specially if you are allowing anything other than management on that.

Hello Hussain,

Thanks for your concern. Actually I am looking into it and need your kind suggestions

The server is Dell EMC 540 and installed Dell customized ESXI 6.7 U2. I did these changes on the ESXI after getting nic down error.

  1. I updated Dell firmware(CPLD, SAS, Network and BIOS) but did not work.
  2. Then I ran your command it started working fine.

I am copying data from old ESXI to new ESXI  server through vswitch(1000Mbps). But after those changes now the data copying speed come down from 11 Mbps to 40 Kbps.

Can you help me to figure out this? I uploaded the screen shot of firmware(ESXi 6.7U2) updated.

Thanks

ask you network admin to check the speed and duplex of the switch port where that physical nic is connected.

I have not checked the VMware HCL and I am assuming all the hardware is supported..
