I'm planning to upgrade to ESXi 5 however, my san storage eva 4000 is not found in the compatible hardware. The server is compatible.
What is the effect of this?
The effect is that the array is not supported by VMware. It is very likely, that it will work with ESXi 5 as well, however, if you run into a problem with the array, VMware will not be obliged to help you resolve it.
HI If server is not in HCL list please dont upgrade
please award points if you see fit. Thanks
you'll need an EVA4400 to be officially supported/compatible for ESXi5
Thank u guys for replying, the servers are actually in HCL only the storage is not. I'm trying to understand the effect of this. Any thoughts?
As far as I understand this, this means the storage *could* work, but in case of problems it's not officially supported by VMware.
It may work or not. But have a unsupport environment is not a good idea, at least for production environment.

1. It might work or it might not work.
2. Incase of issue you cant request VMware support team to work on it.
3. If its working ther might be some performance problem or some striction etc.
