ESXi 5 Installation Problem on Rackable Systems

I am trying to install ESXi 5 on my old Rackable systems. It gets frozen after saying "Relocating Modules and starting up the Kernel"

My Hardware Specification seems to be on the HCL

Intel S5000PSL Motherboard

Dual Dual Core Intel Xeon 5300 CPUs with VT

8GB Memory

Internal SATA Disk

external DVD drive

What should i do to troubleshoot further?

Btw I am able to install and configure vsphere 4.1 successfully

can you provide us the actual hardware model for your system? i have a feeling that it is not supported under vSphere5's HCL.

Welcome to the community.

The HCL is different for each release... So check if your system is included.

Also be sure that all firmware and BIOS are up-to-date.

I am unable to find the model of this unit. But I was able to verify that the motherboard is supported under HCL.

I am going to make sure that i have the latest bios and firmware and try the install again.

Looks like my old machine is not under the HCL. I just ordered a dual Quad core Dell T5400 with 16GB to make my move to Vsphere ESXi 5.

My old machine went back to vsphere 4 so that i can test the upgrade paths from 4 to 5.

I've 2 exactly the same Super Micro blades with the same motherboard/CPU's/RAM. On the first it installed flawless. On the second I got the same problem as the topic starter. I also compared the BIOS settings. Any ideas?

This has to do with the Intel Xeon 5300 CPUs on S5000PSL mother boards. If you upgrade to higher rev Intel Xeon CPU the mother board works fine and installs ESxi 5.

In my case, it is AMD Opteron. I also have Intel Xeon blades who installs without any problem.
