ESXi 5.5 + IBM x3100 M4 + MegaRaid M1015 SAS Controller

Hi all,

I'm trying to setup a RAID 5, using this a PCI E Megaraid M1015 SAS Controller. The thing is that controller is not

able to see the drivers while loading.

0 JBOD(s) found on the host adapter.

0 JBOD(s) handled by Bios.

0 Virtual Drive(s) found on the host adapter.

I have four(4) 3.0GB drives. 1TB each one.

Should I change something on the BIOS side ? Why the controller is not able to see those Drives ?

Finally on the WebBios screen there is no drivers availables to create groups.

Any hint ?

Thanks in advanced!

Regards

Nicolás

Hi Nicolas,

ServeRAID M1015 isn't good controller for ESXi:

1/ You have to buy Advanced Features Key for RAID5

Look here: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/TIPS0054.html?Open#m1015

2/ This controller hasn't cache and battery,

therefore performance and speed will very slow.

Well, yes , that's a good point.

Let's say I am not going to virtualize the operating system.

I am not hardware expert. Our provider sent this server few days ago just like you will see in the second attached picture.

As far as I know, I should have a special connector in order to connect the Disk to the controller. Like this:

And what we have is this:

Is that OK ?? Hard Disks are connected to the motherboard. Shouldn't  be connected to the controller ??

I'm feeling more confused than 2 hours ago ...

Hey,

I have the same problem right now.

Did you find a solution for this?

What kind of adapter-cable do I need for this cabeling?

Thanks
