ESXi 4.1

I have a couple questions about moving to ESXi 4.1.

First a stupid question, where do I download the media for it?

Second, we currently have multiple clusters in different locations. Some are running ESX 4.0 (not ESXi) and some are running ESX 4.1 (again, not ESXi). How would we go about upgrading to ESXi 4.1?

There is no upgrade path from classic ESX to ESXi, it would be a rebuild.  If you have vCenter, you must upgrade that first to 4.1, then if you have vMotion, you can do a rolling rebuild to ESXi

Kevin,

The move fro mESX to ESXi is not an upgrade, rather a replacement.

The good thing though is that you can have ESX and ESXi Hosts in tha same cluster, so you can migrate a Cluster one host at a time.

Also, if you are going to use ESXi on a USB key, it means that you can pul the original disks from the ESX install and hold onto them as a backup until such time as you are happy with ESXi.

Good luck.

One day I will virtualise myself . . .
