When trying to install ESXi 4.1 from scratch I keep getting the following error "Warning:: syslog not configured. Please check syslog options in VSpher client" At this point the install just stalls. I don't have the client installed yet since this is a fresh install, and from what I've read I shouldn't have to have the client installed yet. Has anyone seen this, is there a work around?
Two questions:
- Did you verify the md5 checksum of the ISO file? (http://www.vmware.com/download/md5.html)
- Are you installing on VMware supported hardware? (http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php)
André
Yes, checksum was good, and it i approved hardware.
Is VMware vSphere 32 bit trail available to free download? I want install on Dell PC which is 32 bit.
Thanks.
vSphere is strictly for 64 bit hardware. You can use the 3.5 version of the hypervisor. http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/datacenter_downloads/vmware_vsphere_hypervisor_esxi/3_5
My apologies, after double checking the checksum's they do not match, I'll try downloading again.
Thank you!
It is always a good idea to do a checksum on any download. You would be surprised at how often you do get a bad download. Sometimes they work in spite of the error and sometimes they don't. Sometimes you don't know the effects of a bad download.
Thanks very much providing this info.
Is there any diffrence between training provided direct VMWare and HP.I am little confused to decide the training provider i.e. Direct VMware or HP.

It takes a lot to become a VMware Certified Trainer. Therefore I think it does not make a difference where to go for the training. I'm sure you will be satisfied with either one.
André
Thanks very much.

We have the same problem (exactly the same red warning message) on a fresh installed HP ProLiant ML350 G6 (Raid 5)
After using the ESX4i "583772-005.iso" file from HP, we have a matching MD5 64f54da329a2348307f700fa41c91eb9 as found in the HP Software Depot.
Any ideas to solve this problem are welcome.
BTW: This red line appears installing from CD or USB-Stick as well.
Hi
I had the same error this morning when doing an ESXi 4.1 install.
I was connected to the iLO of a BL460c blade from an RDP session. I had to set up hotkeys for F11, F1 etc. I tried the VMware iso and the HP iso. I got the same error from both.
When I connected directly to the iLO from my desktop, the F11 key worked and the install proceeded to the disk discovery and selection. After selecting the correct disk, the install continues.
Try connecting to the iLO directly.
Good luck
John
What exactly do you mean with "Try connecting to the iLO directly"?
Launch a browser from your desktop, not in an RDP session and connect to the iLO (or enclosure OA).
Rgds
John
