ESX4 Shows Only One Logical CPU on Quad-Core Xeon E5405

I just installed VMWare ESX 4.0.0_U2 on a whitebox server with an ASUS DSEB-DG/SAS motherboard and an Areca ARC-1280 SATA storage controller. I had some difficulty with the install due to the wrong version of the storage device driver, and in the process I updated the ASUS motherboard BIOS to the latest version.

ESX boots happily, but shows only one logical processor. I have a new box from the same vendor with a different motherboard but the same CPU that shows 4.

I booted off of the CPU identification utility CD, and it says:

Xeon E5405 @ 2.00GHz

CPU ID for 1 Logical CPU

Family: 06 Model: 17 Stepping: 6

Hyperthreading: Yes

64-bit VMWare: Yes

Pass: Test 56988 CPUID

Any ideas what I need to do to get ESX to recognize all four cores?

Check the BIOS settings on the motherboard to make sure the multicore is enabled -
