Hello,
I have a question regarding update of our old ESX servers, maybe someone could advice me 🙂
I have to update our old server with 6.7 update 3 (14320388) (this server don't support 7 version ) to lastest version.
On download page i see that I can download 6.7U3b (build 15160138) but on vmware page i see that there is biuld as 20497097 (ESXi670-202210001)
Quetion1
Can I apply path ESXi670-202210001 directly to build 14320388 ?? or first I have to upgrade from 14320388 (U3) to 15160138 (U3b) and then apply patch 20497097 (ESXi670-202210001) ???
Question2
I have also another server with 13981272 (esx 6.7 with patch 10) , on this server firts upgrade to 15160138 (U3b) and then apply patch 20497097 (ESXi670-202210001) ?? or I can just apply patch 20497097 (ESXi670-202210001) ??
Thank You,
Hello.
In VMware vSphere the updates and patch packs are cumulative.
If you install the latest one available, all the previous ones are already included.
Remember that if you have vCenter server, it is recommended to update it first and then the ESXi hosts.

hello,
@e_espinel thank You for info.
yes, I have vCenter on both hosts.
So my action plan should be :
1.Update vCenter from 7.6U3b to 7.6.u3s on both hosts.
2. Apply patch 20497097 to first esx ( build 14320388 )
3 Apply patch 20497097 to second esx (build 13981272)
Correct ??
thank you.
Or maybe to go in cloud already will be the option
Hello.
The plan is correct, version 6.7
Just a quick question. What brand/model of ESXi hosts do you use?
Most major vendors offer customized images, which include additional drivers for their hardware.
Depending on the host's current version, and the vendor's latest available customized version, you may consider to update/patch the host with the vendor's latest image first, and then apply the latest VMware patch if required.
