ESX 4.1 - VM hardware version

When I upgrade from 3.5 to 4.0 I have left some of the VM using the older hardware VM Version = 4. Anything newly created is using the newer VM Version = 7. For ESX4.1 and ESXi 4.1 do they still suppport VM Version=4 or must I upgrade the VM hardware to VM Version 7

Thanks

Hi,

A new VM created on ESX 3.5 would use Hardware version 4, whereas a new VM created on 4.x would use Hardware Version 7. The VM with hardware version 4 can be migrated to ESX 4.x host but a VM with hardware version 7 cannot be used on ESX 3.5.

It is recommended that you upgrade the VMware Tools first, shutdown the VM and the right click the VM and upgrade hardware.

Hope this information helps Smiley Happy
