ESX 3.5 and VDI upgrade process

I have read all of the upgrade documents and need to verify a few things before I start the process.

We are currently running:

VDI 2.0

VCenter 2.5

ESX 3.5 U4

With a 2000 SQL Database

My Steps:

Upgrade database to 2008 (Need to find a migration doc)

Upgrade VCenter

Upgrade VDI

Upgrade ESX

I am trying to do this upgrade over 3 different weekends.

Any Comments?

If you do not have VC 2.5U5, I suggest to update to View before update to vSphere.

For SQL Server I do not see the 2008 version as a supported version for View Composer, so (if you plan to use it) do a simple upgrade to 2005.

To upgrade a SQL follow Microsoft documentation.

Do you know if you can virtualize the database yet?

Yes... but also in VI 3.5 the DB could be VM.

And you have vCenter and the DB on the same VM (not recomended for medium/large environment).
