ESX 3.5 Host Upgrade to V4 from boot disk ?

Hi, is it possible to upgrade an host from 3.4 to esx 4 by booting on the V4 Iso CD like before or is it mandatory to use vSphere Update Manager (VUM) ?

No, is not possible.

You must use VUM or Host update tools.

Or make a clean reinstallation.
