DHCP Error on ESXi...

Hello guys,

I have installed ESXi on vmware workstation 8 and vSphere Client. For few days I was able to connect it through vSphere Client, but now when I have started my ESXi, it is showing that Download management tool from http://0.0.0.0/ and after few seconds it is showing that DHCP lookup failed.

How to solve this problem?

Welcome to the Community,

how did you configure the virtual network for the ESXi VM? From the issue you see, I assume this is setup as a "Bridged" network. I'd suggest you try to change this to "Host-Only" to see whether this helps.

Interesting... I am building a small lab (not to say tiny...) to test auto-deploy

Basically a physical workstation running ubuntu with VMware workstation 8...

The VM are :

Windows 2008 server for DHCP, PowerCli and running the vCenter client

Virtual Center Appliance w Auto Deploy

ESXi... for now just one

I connect remotely to VMware workstation from my latop, all VMs are running on the host-only network

The thing is that my ESXi VM will not get an IP from the 2008 DHCP server. The DHCP server logs looks like...

What is seriously weird is that if I ask the same vm to boot from the network.... it gets an IP

Thinking a driver issue

Sorry, no solution but you are not alone 😉

check if the DHCP is up and running. If you are offering DHCP from vmware workstation check if the service is running and other solution offered above

if you are not using Vmware workstation DHCP service, stop it & then check it.
