I have a vSphere 5.0 infrastructure not integrated with Active Directory.
Either the vCenter and the ESXi hosts have a DNS identification that uses a domain name that is the same as an existing Active Directory domain.
In order to avoid possible conflicts I am considering changing the domain name in the DNS configuration as described on page 74 of the manual on page https://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-501-netwo... .
Can I just change the DNS domain name without rebooting the ESXi hosts?
Does the DNS domain name impact on the ESXi membership in a cluster (not integrated in AD)?
Should I change the DNS domain name of the vCenter as well?
Is there anything else I should consider?
Regards
marius
I would recommend to change the domain name on all systems related to the vpshere environment.
Remember to change also the DNS records on your dns server. I suppose that they are connecteed to the vcenter with the dns name right?
otherwise the esx server and the vcenter server can't see each other...

Thank you for the answer.
To be honest. vCenter and ESXi hosts are connected using IP addresses.
Is it a problem?

No, this is no problem.
