Change from ESX to ESXi - how do you move templates from a host?

Our set up:

4 hosts, 3 x esx 4.1, 1 x esxi 4.1.  Equallogic shared storage.

I have templates which are associated with one of the esx boxes, but i'd like to change this box to esxi which means a clean install, my issue is i can't seem to move the template even though it's on the shared storage.  Moving VMs is fine, just not templates.

The template is also not available when the host has been shutdown, can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks

Paul

right click the template and convert it to virtual machine move it then right click and convert back to template. or

the template has a vmxt extension vs a virtual machine of .vmx. when you have a new vcenter and new host (only vcenter recognise .vmxt) via the vsphere client you connected to vcenter, you could browse the datastore and right click to register it back as a template.
