Can't download patches manually?

Hi, I'm trying to download patches manually for various versions of vSphere 5 from https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/patch#search

It allows me to search but I then can't tick the boxes to activate the download button both tickbox and download buttons are greyed out.

I assume this is some sort of java/browser setting but I can't get it to work on IE, Chrome or Firefox on Windows or Firefox on Linux Mint or Android browser.

I guess I've missed something but just wanted to check it's working for anyone else?

Thanks

Lozb

Dear Iozb

Ideally you do not have permissions to download the patches.
Kindly contact your VMware super admin of your company

Thanks for the reply.

I have valid product licenses/support/subscription for vSphere 4/5/6. I have permissions to download products under the various accounts. The tickboxes and download options aren't available for any version I choose.

Depending on the browser, I also get a warning "An add-on for this website failed to run".

Could someone just confirm they are able to tick a patch and the Download button becomes available?

Just checked myself. and found i am able to download the patches . I would suggest you 2 workouts.

1.try login with some other id to download the product patches.

2.Also change the browser you are using. You can download it without any issue.

Dear lozb

As Anjani suggested you could try with a different account.
I do not think this is a browser issue , its a simple flash so all browser would behave same while executing code

I am able to download as well , kindly talk to your company's account manager.

Hi, a little further progress.

I managed to find someone else with a login and tested with that on a totally different machine. They were able to select the patch and download it. To try and identify the issue, they then logged on as me and the buttons were greyed out. But, if they logged back on as themselves the buttons were then greyed out for them too..

I think this is a Java/browser issue as it prompts to download and install a Java 1.4 cab file and in different browsers returns error "An add-on for this website failed to run", prompts it's an unsupported or out-of-date Java applet, or has the yellow warning triangle. Right-clicking the warning triangle on the web page and choosing Inspect Element brings up the debugger, closing the debug console and the tick box and download button become available, but clicking Download button opens another tab with a blank page!?!?!?!?!?

Quite why Java has to be used, when a simple HTML hyperlink could have done the same job I don't know.

Anyway, the patch has downloaded. As my colleague now cannot access the download button either, let's hope I don't need anymore patches and hope that the downloaded file is not corrupt!

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate your help.

Correct. JAVA api having a big role to display all things correctly. i will suggest you to just use a different browser with a updated version. it will work as well.

I am using Google chrome and its runs without any issue.

Add me to the list of those unable to download patches.  Not with latest Chrome 45, Firefox or IE on OSx or Windows 7.   Java errors, much the same as what other posters above have said.  I've been able to do this in the past (haven't tried for a few months).

Thank you,

Gary

You can add me as well to the list of those unable to download patches.

It worked well once this morning. After that, no luck. I tried using Chrome, IE, Firefox and on 2 different computers (W8.1 and W10)

Under the title an unreadable error message block shows (yellow backgroud, exclamation mark in yellow triangle just visible)

examining this part of the page shows the following:

<h3 id="error_message" style="display:none">No results. Revise the search and try again.</h3>

       <div id="dpl_error_message" class="warning_big" style=""></div>

The rest of the page looks like a normal list, except from the fact that the tickboxes and download buttons do not respond

Hope some has a clue...

Thank you

Was able to download patch this morning (September 13) once again.  Perhaps some website maintenance caused the issue?  Not running JRE and Chrome 45 has a problem with the API as of this version.  It would be nice to not see the yellow 'warning' message and perhaps eliminate Java altogether (I no longer install Java on anything).

Thanks,

Gary

Hi,

I retried downloading a patch this morning. I got the message that a plugin could not be executed, but I was able to select and download...

Could it be that there are quota per user per day?

Best regards,

Luc

I too cannot download patch 6.0 U1 for VCSA from this site. Its quite a problem, as I have slated this week to upgrade our infrastructure to U1.

Here's the java box that I receive when attempting:

Please draw your attention to the double W's in Name: com.vmwware.applet.tool.VaultApplet .

I have tried all browsers, Win and OS X versions to no avail. This does not run without issue...
