Best practices to upgrade VMware

Hello,

A doubt. I have a fully version 6.0 environment and I want to upgrade to version 7.0. I have already verified that my servers are compatible with this version.

My question is as follows:
Do I have to upgrade vCenter first or ESXi? I know that I will have to perform an upgrade first to version 6.5 and then to 7.0.
The other question is, until which version of ESXi can a vCenter 7 manage? Would anyone be able to indicate good practices for this work?

@Tguitarful

Thank you for your post on VMware Communities.

Regarding the vSphere 7 Upgrade Best Practices please follow the below VMware KB:
https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/78205?lang=en_US

You always need to upgrade vCenter first followed by ESXi host.
To move from source 6.0 to target 7.0 version, it has to be done in 2 stages.
First upgrade the environment to either 6.5 or 6.7, then upgrade to vSphere 7.0

VCSA 7.0 can manage any version of ESXi 6.5 and higher.

vCenter Server can manager ESXi 6.5 or later, so what you need to do is a two step upgrade, always upgrading vCenter Server followed by the ESXi hosts.

Remember to verify that any 3rd party tools (e.g. backup) that you are using support the new versions too.
