Hi There,
I am on the process of upgrading ESXi hosts running on 5.5 to 6.5. On one host I am not getting the option to upgrade, for some reason it is not detecting the esxi instance.
Is it possible to backup the configuration of ESXi host while it is running on 5.5 and restore it once it is clean installed with 6.5?
Thanks
Mahi
You cannot perform a config backup on one version and restore it to a different version. Not only is this not supported, but it flat-out won't work.
Hi
Are you using vcenter or is it a standalone host?
Hi Mahesh
Below VMTN will help you, it seems like you cant do with different build and version. You have to try another alternative ways!!!

Try upgrading via CLI:
How To: Upgrade VMware vSphere ESXi 6.5 to 6.7 via CLI – nokitel
This is for 6.5 to 6.7, but the process is similar for 5.5 to 6.5.
Is the current 5.5 installation on a custom build or on a VMware standard build?
To verify you can either run this command <esxcli software profile get> or check the summary tab of the ESXi host for the Image Profile.
