Hi,
Hope someone can help...
I recently adopted a new setup and have some things to sort.
Our older setup is
vCentre 6.5, Esxi 6.0 hosts, Intel Xeon Processors (Can upgrade some hosts to 6.5)
Mix of Linux and Windows VMs.
New setup is
vCentre 7.03, Esxi 7,03. AMD Processors.
I need to move all VMs to new clusters with least effort. Then decom the older hosts etc.
I planned to upgrade the older hosts to 6.5, then disconnect them from the older vCentre and attach to new and Vmotion across to my new clusters, they have same DVS etc (Obviously backup everything before hand).
The bit I'm a bit rusty about is diff processors, can I do live migration or will they have to be shut down before Vmotion?
Cheers in advance.
No, live migration between Intel, and AMD is not possible, i.e. you need to migrate the VM in powered off state.

Would you not bother upgrading the older hosts then and maybe just copy the VMs vmx / vhd across and reimport??
