4.0 ESX to 4.1 ESXi

Hi All,

From what I read today it looks as though VMware will not be creating updates for ESX any longer which leads me to believe migrating from ESX to ESXi will be the popular trend. Smiley Happy

I have a few questions in regards to this.

1. Can you directly migrate VM's from ESX 4.0 to ESXi 4.x utilizing vmotion as long as ESXi can see the same storage?

2. Is there a way to directly upgrade an ESX cluster to an ESXi cluster or will new hardware have to be ordered and configured, with hopefully number 1 above being able to work.

3. If you have licensing for ESX can it be transferred to ESXi or do new licenses have to be purchased or "traded in" possibly?

I know this is my first post but hopefully these questions seem intelligent enough to ask.

yes

no.  It's a rebuild
