Hi all,

will new version of VMFS in vSphere?

If so, will possible shared (read/ write) new VMFS datastore both from vSphere and from ESX/ ESXi 3.5?

VMFS3 does not change with the release of vSphere 4.0

It's still using VMFS3 with minor update from 3.31 to 3.33

So, will ESX 3.5U4 hosts be able to access and use datastores formatted by ESX4 Hosts with VMFS 3.33 without problems or drawbacks? If not, will VMware quickly provide a patch for ESX 3.5 that adds support or something like that?

In my lab, I can access the same LUN from both VI3.5U4 and vSphere4.0. I'm even running live VMs simultaneously from both platforms on the same shared LUNs. I have to mention that I'm using vSphere 4.0 RC however.

There is no issue, it is like running 3.x.x hosts against 3.5 formatted VMFS. it just works

To use new vSphere features (like FT or hardware hot add) yes.

But you can still play old VM format.
