multiple iSCSI SAN's on seperate subnets

Hi

We are are looking to install a new iSCSI SAN on a new 10Gb network. This network is isolated with no conenctivity to the exisiting iSCSI network. We will be creating 2 new vmk ports on each esx host associated to the 2 new physical nics in an active/unused config on a new vSwitch.

Is it save to use the escli swiscsi command to add these new vmk ports?

We will essentially have 2 subnets but wouldnt require any routing between them so I am hoping this will be OK. Once we have migrated the VM's to the new SAN the old one will be deccomissioned and we will use the esxcli swiscsi command with the remove switch to get rid of the old vmk ports

Generally speaking it is a bad idea to have your storage network across multiple subnet's, if for any reason targets need to start talking to each other across subnet's then you have storage traffic going through your firewall which is bad.

If you can it is usually best to use a flat network.

Thanks guys, It will be a flat network again, just need a few weeks to migrate from the old network to the new.

No routing between the iSCSI targets so no worries there
