multiple esx hosts on one iSCSI LUN?

I'm using openfiler as my iSCSI target, and I just mapped the entire available space to one LUN with the intent of using it for three ESX hosts.

Can I share one LUN accross multiple ESX hosts?

(or, do I need to create three LUNs...one per ESX host).

The reason I want to do one LUN is so I can bring up a VM on another ESX host without adding storage or moving the vm files.

This is supported, and even required for things like vMotion, etc. Just make sure you have your SAN configured to allow simultaneous access to the same target.

You can share LUNS accross ESX host without any issues.

re "make sure you have your SAN configured to allow simultaneous access to the same target."

can openfiler do this?

there is an old sticky in the openfiler forums that seems to indicate otherwise (or is this referring to individual partitions ON a LUN, not individual LUNS)

They're correct that most filesystems do not allow this. VMFS does allow it, though.

I'm fairly certain OpenFiler allows multiple initiators hitting the same target, it's just that (like the thread suggests) most filesystems like ext2, etc. will not work in this manner.
