monitoring datastore and vm thin provision disks growth history

I am export the datastore free space and usage manually to Excel regularly, also the vm disks(thin provisioned) usage. so that I can track the growth history to prepare future storage requests.

Not sure if there is a builtin feature in VCenter or somewhere that I can use for this purpose. or better suggestions, like using script extract the history from what table in database?

using alarms is a must if you thin provision.  However, for reporting, you may want to look at RVTools
