iSCSI vmhba34 adapter configuration doubt

Hi, I have a EWSX cluster with 3 hosts and attached to IBM DS3300 with redundant Gigabit conenctions, I have a doubt about the iSCSI Software Adapter vmhba34, I can see only one adapter, though I have two vnics configured under 2 VMKernal ports for redundancy.

Am I missinh some thing here.

ESX4.0

IBM x3560 M2 server with 9NICs, 2 allocated for SAN side conenction

I know that software iSCSI cannot achive storage level multipathjing, but I should see 2 iSCSI software adapters isnt it?

Hi AsokaRoy,

You have only one iSCSI software initiator per host, even if you have several targets, physical nics or VMkernel ports used for iSCSI storage. "vmhba34" is its "device name".

Hi Thanks for the quick answer, so that is why software iSCSI cannot achieve multipath storage connections is it.

But how can I find out if both NIC cards using the host iSCSI initiator.

You can do multipath with iSCSI! Have a look at iSCSI San configuration guide . You should also have some documents from IBM on how to achieve this kind of configuration.

If you single click on the adapter, it should ist all valid targets. Each multiple target for the same lun number means it's multi-pathed.
