Hi guyz,
i'm not used to work with raw device mappings, but i have a little problem somewhere.
i searched the forums, but i didn't find any answers yet.
I have to convert a raw device mapping to a virtual raw device mapping.
The reason there has been used a RDM is not clear to me, the database running on this partition is only 20gb's larg or something like that.
It is needed for backup reasons (veeam)
You can select physical or virtual mode RDM when you create the RDM.
Shutdown the vm, delete the RDM from your config, and re-add the LUN, and this time,
use virtual mode instead of physical.

Is your goal to end up with simple .vmdk virtuel disks?
If so... Just clone the server if you've got room for it on a datastore..

just that simple? no data will be lost?
no, i just want to be able to create veeam backups of those RDM, if theyre vrdm, it should work.
Backup up over lan takes too much time... (small backup window)
thanks i'll let you know if it works.
Yes, with RDM, data is not deleted since ESX does not control the device, only the mapping is removed.

thanks for your advice
i don't work often with RDM's.
