actual .vmdk file size for thin provisioning

Hi,

I have a VM with thin provisioning enabled.

Provisioned storage: 550GB

Usage Storage: 40GB

I am try to copy the .vmdk file from NFS data store, it says .vmdk file size is 550GB.

My question is why it says this is 550Gb wheni have only use 40GB. Since i am trying to copy the file, does it mean that i will copy full 550 GB or only the actual size 50GB. This is a NFS share.

If you export as an OVF it will strip out the zeros. Smiley Happy
