Hello!
We are in a process of buying vSphere License for our servers and have already setup a purchase for several LSI Megaraid SAS 8408E 8-Ch. RAID cards. I am loking in cSphere HCL for support and I do not quite understand if I will be able to use VMFS datastore on this card with RAID configuration. I mean it shows up in HCL in SCSI device type, but not SAS/SATA-RAID. So that means, that it will only work in single disk configuraions or am I misreading this? Also, the support is mainly for ESX 3.5, not for 4.1 - although it shows up just fine in new naming table - renamed from 8408E to megaraid3, from ESX 3.5 to 4.1.
Can someone shed some light on this - I mean I am responsible for buying those cards and if VMSF datastore will not work in RAID configuration, I am a dead man
Thanks for all input in advance!
Cheers, D

Yes it is supported. The card supports SAS (as shown in the model - serial attached scsi) which is a form of SCSI. As long as the card is detected the raid creation function will be the card's job and nothing to do with ESX 4.1
Also shown is the ESX 4.1 is supported. 😃

Hey idle-jam,
thank you for the quick reply! I sort of knew that is it supported, just wasn't sure about the RAID and VMFS part. Thanks for clearing it up, so we are good to go with the buying part. If needed, I can post back the results, once I got everything working.
Have a great weekend!
