Possibly if they were all in a tiered storage setup and all with low priority? Dedup benefits?

Other than the already mentioned tiered storage model the only other thing I could think of would be for organization.
I would say to keep all of each VM's files within just one datastore, don't split them up among different datastores. Size your LUN's properly, and you should be able to keep all of each VM's files within a single datastore/LUN...

Well, I think in this, deduplication is the most benefits that I can see.
