Which Vmware NMP policy has to enable for Active/Active storage(DMX-3).

Hi All,

We have one Vmware Esxi 4.1.0 server  with single HBA path which is configured with DMX-3 storage.

And NMP policy "Fixed" was enabled .We want to configure dual path for this Vmware server and in this regards need your input on which policy has to enable for path failover and load balancing .

Thanks in Advance.

I would start with VMware HCL www.vmware.com/go/hcl‎ to check what is the tested/certified/supported PSP for the storage array. Mostly for Active/Active array Fixed PSP is recommended but if you your vendor supports Round Robin then you can use that also. Ensure that you are making the changes recommended by the storage vendor if you are using RR else use the default PSP that is available in VMware HCL.

Changing from "Fixed" to "Round robin" policy, will it impact anything to datastores.?

and want to know can we change NMP policy online or we have to reboot the server to reflect changes.

The PSP can be changed online just fine without impacting running VMs on the datastore. No reboots required either.
