What is the role of vcenter in RAID rebuilds?

We had a RAID controller failure on a Dell R710 running ESX 3.5.  vcenter reported repeated rebuilds of failed drives.  My assumption is that any rebuilds were initiated by the RAID controller and that vcenter was only reporting on this, vs initiating those rebuilds.  Does this sound correct?

This is correct - vCenter only report what the WBEM/CIM data provides - no initiatiation or control.
