Upgraded to esxi4 in my vsphere 4 setup and now iscsi luns are unreadable

Hi there

I have a microsoft sql cluster running using iscsi rdms and after upgrading to esxi 4 the side running on the cluster can no longer access the iscsi luns.

The logs are reporting this:

vmkernel: 0:00:03:50.442 cpu2:5140)WARNING: ScsiDeviceIO: 1374: I/O failed due to too many reservation conflicts. t10.F405E46494C45400A5239343F485D203A61503D266247486 (920 0 3)

I'm running the iscsi targets on openfiler 2.3 x86_64.

This is a really bad situation as we're now running a critical ms cluster with only one node. I hope somebody can shine a little light on this for me.

Thanks in advance

The "Too many reservation conflicts" error is not uncommon with vSphere and OpenFiler.

No fix for it yet, as far as I can tell.

Is there any comment from VMWare on it, or do they regard this as something openfiler should fix? I use openfiler quite extensively and all was fine until i updated to esxi 4 Smiley Sad

This is an OpenFiler bug. If you have intensive MS cluster, and need robust solution, I would suggest you to use other iSCSI solution. I`ve worked with OpenFiler, and realized that it`s to weak as product: low set of functions while support for it costs too much Smiley Sad The only big plus of it - it`s free.

OpenFiler is not officially supported, so I dont think VMWare is going to give you much help with this issue.

Try to abort all connections. According to log it has too many requests. So aborting or determinating connections for a while should help. But that`s not for sure.
