Updating BIOS of QLE4062 with ESXi

I'm trying to update the iSCSI HBA's on a R710 server with ESXi 4 installed. Some of the documentation I have found states to create a boot disk and make sure to copy the iflash.exe and the qla4022.dl file and run the command from there.

The issue I have is that I create the boot disk (DOS6.22) and I burn it on cd. I boot the server and the files I added to the cd rom cannot be seen. I know they are there, I verified this on two difference computers. What silly thing am I missing?

What is the best way to update the firmware of my QLogic cards with ESXi as the host?

The following information is applicable ONLY to VMware ESXi hosts® (not ESX):

The only supported way to update Qlogic HBA firmware and bios (aka

Bootcode) in a VMware ESXi® environment is by booting to DOS using bootable USB

flash drive:

Please refer to the Qlogic link below for KB 1247 to obtain the

qFLASHERUSB_2010.04.11a.iso.zip file.

Instructions

for usage.

  1. Download the attached qFLASHER_DATE*.ISO file.

  2. Burn the ISO image file to a blank CD or image to a USB stick.

  3. Boot the server from the qFlasher CD or qFlasher USB stick.

  4. If booting from the CD image, change to the CD-ROM drive where the utilities
are located. The drive letter can be found by using the “path” command at the
    a:\ prompt.

  5. Run START.BAT

  6. Once update process is completed, remove the DOS bootable USB drive and
    reboot the system

For additional information on the included utilities, consult the readme and

release notes found in each directory.

*NOTE: The CD ISO does not have

SATA CD-ROM driver support so use the USB stick image and boot from a USB stick

instead.*
