Thin Provisioning ...Want space back

Hi guys,

As many of u know once u thin provision a 700GB hdd it grows as it needs to. So I am in case right now I have a vmdk that is over 650GB because it claim it all once but now it only has 200GB. What`s the best way to shrink that back and claim it back.

If I do a datastore move of that vmdk would it be 650GB on the other datastore as well ?>

Is the only way to use convertor ? Or maybe Veeam Restore that VM ?

I am very interested in doing this

Thanks a lot

I would try to do a vMotion to another datastore and see if this shrinks the size of the VMDK's.

Paul

been reading posts over this but don`t have a real fix yet... some mentioning sdelete -c c:\ first to fill the hdds with zero and then svmotion over to a new datastore with a differenet block size...

I also forgot to mention I can have downtime and I am ok if the VM is powered off... Those are all SQL servers...

Hi,
You can do that with Converter or Storage vMotion to another datastore (this is mandatory).
