Suggestions for new storage - raid, block size partition etc

Reciving my brand new P2000 tomorrow, with 8GB FC hba’s, 300GB 2.5” SAS 10K disks (24 pcs) dual controller etc.

I have a question regarding setup – raid config. I can only create a raid 5 of 16 disks.

What is the smartest way to configure the raid system? 2 x 12 disk raid 5? 3 x raid 5 with 8 disks?

Raid 10 is a waste of space if you ask me, even tho performance is superior! Maybe a raid 50 with all 24 disks?

I will create luns of 5-600 GB a piece I think.

I run a bunch of terminal servers 5-10 users, a few exchanges and AD’s, file servers and some light SQL’s. a total of 27 vm’s.

And what is the suggested stripe size? And should i check allignment on my vm's afterwards?

Give me an idea 🙂

The question is do you require the performance that RAID 10 provides? If not, don't worry about it. I would always align the virtual machine vmdk's straight away as that could prevent possible issue in the future. And regarding to the blocksize do you mean VMFS blocksize? If so, just go with what you need, as long as you implement it consistently there is no real impact.
