Snapshots

Hi Guys,

When I take a snapshot where is the snapshot saved to? Just wondering if this can be manually set?

by default snapshots are stored in the directory containing your .vmx file

It depends on the ESX version you use. Until 4.x the default snapshot location was the base folder (with the .vmx file), Starting with ESXi 5.0 it's the folder of the parent .vmdk file.

Thanks Troy. So if there is low capacity in the LUN where the .vmx resides will be snapshot just fail or can it cause issues to the VM's that are running on that LUN?

a.p. has the more defined answer.  As for low space, if the snapshot continues to grow, you can run out of disk space on the LUN
