RDM LUN not showing in windows

Hi,

We're using ESXi 4.1 and currently all VM servers are Win Server 2003.

I added a LUN to a VM via RDM, booted the VM and looked in disk management and it let me partition and format the lun.

I tried to repeate the process - and the 2nd lun doesnt show up in disk management??  I looked in device manager and it shows a 2nd MD3220i SCSI disk attached to the machine, but it just doesnt show up in disk management meaning you cant assign it a drive letter, partition and format it.

I've tried shutting down ,removing the RDM and re-adding and powering on the VM etc

Still not showing up.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Simon

i kept removing and readding it and eventually it worked.

The only thing i changed was the physical setting to virtual when adding the RDM and it showed this time..?

Not sure if thats related at all.. ?

So confusing.

Can anyone help?

THis issue went away for some reason and has returned.

If I add 1 rdm to a vm in physical mode it shows up in disk management.

Any subsequent rdm's that i add do not show up if i add it in physical mode.

it does not show in disk management or by using the diskpart.exe tool.

If i add in virtual mode, it seems to work fine.

I can add it in virtual mode and tick the "independant" option so it doesnt get added to snapshots.... but how then would the disk differ from physical mode?  Also, would the LUN get included in an .ovf export if the RDM is in virtual mode?
