Question regarding capacity and total storage

I have a ESX datastore.

What I'm wondering is how come my provisioned storage is larger than my total storage? 
Currently the provisioned spave is 8.47 TB but it was 9.3 TB earlier before I deleted an old snapshot. 

Can someone please bring me some clearance on the topic?

Total capacity is physically available space, while provisioned space is reserved space, e.g. through thin disks, which physically take up much less space, i.e. they will fit into the total capacity limit, but when added up, it can be provisioned capacity
