Procedure for removing LUN

I want to remove a LUN datastore from vSphere: is it best to remove the LUN from vSphere first, then rescan all HBAs, or delete the LUN from the Storage Manufacturers GUI (in my case HP), and then rescan the HBAs from within vSphere, or does it not matter?

Cheers

This is how I would do it

1) Power off and vMotion any VMs you have on the LUN first.

2) Remove the LUN from vSphere

3) Rescan the HBAs

4) Go into your SAN and remove the LUN (if you want to do an actual reformat/deletion of it)
