Problem for adding san space to my server EXSi

Hi !,

I have a IBM Blade HS22 with VMWare ESXi 4.1 Update 1

I install the vSphere Client on my laptop for manage.

When I click on the server ESXi for add space of my san.

I go to configuration tab, I choose Disk/LUN, IBM Fibre Channel Disk and I see the 200 Go space.

I click next and I have a window with the hard drive is blank, a partition will be created and used.

I click next, enter a name for the datastore and click next.

I choose 256 Go and block size 1 Mo

I click next and Finish for create the space.

I recevied a error : Appel "HostDatastoreSystem.CreateVmfsDatastore" pour l'objet "ha-datastoresystem" sur ESXi "10.68.0.46" a échoué.

Check my pictures.

Anyone could help me because it's the first time that I add San Space with VMware ESXi.

I do not know if I'm missing something to do.

Thanks a lot !

David

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Note: This discussion was moved from the VMware vSphere community to the VMware vSphere Storage community.

What IBM SAN are you using?

Good Luck!

You might want to make sure that you have configured a LUN with an ID other than 31 as LUN ID 31 is used by IBM as the Access LUN.  The Access LUN must and will be visible by all hosts in the LUN Mappings section of Storage Manager.  Try this:

1.  Open Storage Manager and create a new LUN with a LUN ID other than 31.

2.  Map the LUN to the host in the Host-to-LUN Mappings section of Storage Manager.

3.  Login to vCenter and browse to the host.  Click on the Configuration Tab.

4.  Go to Storage Adapters and find your FC HBA.  Right-click the HBA and Rescan or select Rescan All.

5.  Verify that you see the LUN listed.  Then proceed to the Storage section.

6.  Click on Add Storage and proceed from there.

Try that and let me know if that works out for you.

Hi !

I tried what you said and always the same problem.

The Access LUN is 31 and my disk space is LUN 1.

What firmware level is your DS4700 on?  You need to have at least 7.6x.x to use with 4.1.  If you are using 4.1u1 then you can't use your DS4700 as it is not supported by VMware's HCL.

Edit:  I just noticed you were saying that this is for 4.1u1.  The VMware HCL doesn't show 4.1u1 supported with the DS4700.

My firmware is 6.16.88.00.

I can not update the firmware for the moment on the DS4700, but I tried on a DS3500 and it works.

When I update it, I'll give you news.

Thanks a lot for your help !

Anytime.  Just keep in mind that your DS4700 is not supported on 4.1u1 currently.  The word from IBM is that it won't be either.  The addition of the 4.1 HCL entry for the DS4700 is due to the massive amounts of RPQ requests that customers put in with IBM.  You could possibly contact your local IBM Storage representative and try to submit and RPQ requesting support for 4.1u1.
