Path Policy Change

I have a LUN with MRU policy.

So what happens if I change path selection policy to fixed and indicate another path as the preferred path.

Is there any potential risk or downtime to my storage connectivity (like packet drop...)

Thank in advance

Hi ,

Ideally you should not see any issues while changing path selection policy of lun. However I would prefer to do it when the VM are not running on that ESXI host.

As suggested, you can perform the same in off-peak time. Also please ensure you are considering your environment (ESX version, storage model, fail-over policy used in storage etc...) before making the changes.

Thank Mohammed, Vipinvk

Assume that I have two paths, path1 from HBA1 and path2 from HBA2. Path selection policy is MRU and path1 is using. So if I change to Fixed policy and set path2 as preferred path, all FC traffic will go to path2 without data corruption?

Hi ,

Again let me say it, if  you have high I/O VM, do not change the path when the VM is running on ESXi host.
