Only 91,96 Gb available on a 2Tb RAID 6 Array

Hi all,

on an ESXi whitebox with an Adaptec 2820SA Raid controller I have 7x500Gb disk in RAID 6 cohtaining 2 arrays configured as follow

  • 1st boot array of 30Gb where ESXi is installed

  • 2nd array of 2Tb for storage

When I try to add a storage to ESXi host from Vcenter, it show me a disk of 2Tb but only with 91,96GB free even if the array is totally free.

There is something I miss?

Thanks

Edika

LUN should be smaller than 2TB-512B. Your LUN is 92GB bigger than specified limit, so only this space can be seen. Make LUN 92GB smaller.

Many Thanks in this way works.

There is a particular reason for the 2tb limit?

That's SCSI-2 limitation. Yes, it's old and annoying today, but that's the way ESX works. Let's hope ESX 4.5 will be able to work with LUNs bigger than 2TB.
