New to 5.x and a storage question

I have two 4.x ESXi servers. I have not bought/built a server in several years and am pricing-out a new Dell R720xd. My understanding is I can install the VMware ESXi 5.1 OS boot to the two 146GB drives in the rear (a RAID1) and/or to the sd cards (redundant) and then boot to the 24 drives in the front. I plan on doing a RAID10 and having over 12TB of storage. This server will go to an off site and be DR for all my other hosts, using Veeam B&R. Also, 5.1 does not have the data store limit of 4.x (1.6TB?) and can grow to 64TB now? Do I have all of this correct? I just want to double-check before purchasing the new server.

Hello, dont get what you mean when saying "and then boot to the 24 drives in the front".

Yes, VMFS-5 limits the number of extents to 32 and the total datastore size to 64TB, but the individual extents are not limited to 2TB each.
