New LUNs don't appear after HBA refresh

Hi,

I have a two server cluster connected to shared storage provided by a Dell MD3200 unit. Both servers are connected over two 6Gbps SAS HBA adapters.

I've created LUNs and these were picked up by server 1 without any problem. When I rescan the HBAs (through the VC) on server 2, the new LUNs are not picked up. If I reboot server 2, however, the LUNs appear.

I don't want to have to reboot my server every time I add new storage. Anyone have any ideas what's causing this?

Servers are running ESXi 4.0.0 build 261974.

I believe there is a shared storage option you need to select in the MD3200 controller software. This will allow for multiple presentation versus first seen only

reboot is not expected here;

6Gbps SAS, can this be 1 reason? could you please post vmkernel messages from server 2? thanks

I would suggest you to down the path and make it up again which will make the ESX server to loose its cache.

Also after this activity try to rescan in the VI client and not in VC. Check for the /var/log/vmkernel -- LOOP DOWN/DEAD/UP line.

It should work.
