NPIV enabled on vm but not seen in the guest

Hi,

I have a esxi 5.0 with a qlogic hba. i created a VM and installed rhel on it.

Then, i enabled the npiv on this vm and saw that it generated node WWN and port WWN.

However, when i logged in into the guest, i am not able to see the port names in

/sys/class/scsi_host/host{n}/device/fc_host:host{n}/port_name

Is there any additional configuration on the VM side to enable the WWNs inside the guest?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

To  edit the virtual machine’s WWNs, power off the virtual machine.

Verify  that the virtual machine has a datastore containing a LUN that is available to  the host.

1

Select a  virtual machine.

In  the virtual machines and templates inventory tree, select a group of virtual  machines and select a virtual machine from the list on the right.

Search for a  virtual machine and select it from the search results  list.

2

In the VM  Hardware panel, click Edit  Settings.

3

Click VM  Options.

4

Click the Fibre Channel NPIV triangle to expand the NPIV  options.

5

(Optional) Select the Temporarily Disable NPIV for this virtual machine check  box.

6

Select an option for assigning WWNs.

To  leave WWNs unchanged, select Leave  unchanged.

To  have vCenter Server or the ESXi  host generate new WWNs, select Generate New  WWNs.

To  remove the current WWN assignments, select Remove WWN  assignment.

7

Click OK.
