Migrating Fibre Channel Datastores to iSCSI.

Hi,

I am planning to migrate all the datastores in my environment from fibre channel to 10Gb iSCSI.

I'm wanting to do this with zero downtime and after looking online I can't find any articles on this.

I have multiple ESXi 5.5 hosts which are connected to Netapp filers running 7 mode.

Here is my plan but not sure if this will work.

Create additional iSCSI initiators on netapp.

Add existing luns to new iSCSI initiator groups so luns will be added to both FCP and iSCSI initator groups.

Shut down ESXi host and install 10Gb cards and cable up ensuring the configuration is correct on network back end..

Create and configure ESXi iSCSI software adaptor including vmkernels and port bindings. Add iqn number to iSCSI initiator on netapp.

Rescan for datastores to appear.

Place next host into maintenance mode for 10Gb card installation and repeat.

Can anyone add anything on here to where I might have this wrong or any advice on if there is a better way to achieve this?

Thanks in advance for your help

Mike.

Hi All,

Unfortunately it is not supported running the same LUN down multiple protocols. https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=21230...

I have come up with another way of doing this without downtime.
